Shopify Migration SEO: Recovered and Beat Previous Rankings
After moving to Shopify, a retail brand lost organic rankings and traffic. We executed a migration SEO recovery plan that restored visibility and pushed key commercial keywords higher than before.
Key Results
- Recovered lost organic rankings after Shopify migration
- Key commercial keywords ranked higher than pre-migration
- 301 redirects and URL mapping protected link equity
- Indexation cleaned up in Google Search Console
- Organic traffic restored and then exceeded old baseline
- Post-migration SEO monitoring and ranking playbook
A retail ecommerce brand migrated to Shopify expecting better performance, but organic rankings dropped. Important category and product URLs changed, redirects were incomplete, and Google began deindexing or demoting pages that previously ranked. Paid ads temporarily covered the gap, but organic growth had stalled.
XLOXI ran a Shopify migration SEO recovery focused on high rankings, not only “fixing the site.” We audited the old URL inventory against the new Shopify structure, rebuilt 301 redirect maps, repaired broken internal links, and submitted corrected sitemaps. Canonical tags, pagination, and collection filters were checked so Google indexed the right commercial URLs.
On-page SEO was re-established on the new theme: title tags, meta descriptions, headings, and product content were aligned with the keywords that previously ranked. Thin or missing migrated content was restored. Technical issues that appeared after theme launch — slow templates, crawl traps, and duplicate paths — were cleaned to support ranking recovery.
We monitored Google Search Console daily through the recovery window: coverage errors, impressions, average position, and click trends for priority keywords. Where rankings returned slowly, we strengthened internal links and content depth on those URLs until positions stabilized.
The result was full recovery of critical organic visibility, followed by gains beyond the pre-migration baseline on several commercial keywords. Traffic returned, then grew, and the brand finished with a Shopify storefront that ranks stronger than the old platform setup.
Built by XLOXI, this Shopify migration SEO project proves that a careful redirect plan, indexation cleanup, and ranking-focused content rebuild can not only restore lost positions — it can beat them.
